Birthday Bard: Library events celebrate Shakespeare’s 450th

Celebrate Shakespeare’s 450th birthday at the Hood River Library with performances and activities for kids and grown-ups alike.

These programs are free and open to the public. Here’s the schedule for the annual celebration:

n April 22-26 — Know Your Shakespeare Challenge. Adults, come to the front desk and take the Shakespeare Quiz for a Dog River certificate drawing. Kids, come to the kids’ desk and pick up your Shakespeare bookmark, memorize your quote, recite it for the librarian and choose a free book.

n April 22, 3:30-5 p.m. — Woodland Crown Craft: Get ready for Midsummer Night’s Dream and make a forest fairy crown like King Oberon and Queen Titania.

n April 23, 6 p.m. — Happy Birthday Shakespeare: Celebrate the Bard’s big day at a special performance of “Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The Original Practice Shakespeare Festival presents the bard as you’ve never seen him. Fast-paced, energetic and full of surprise. Birthday cake will be served afterwards.

n April 24, 3:30 to 5 p.m. — Shakespeare for Kids: Delightfully animated adaptations of three famous plays.
