Kindergarten Round-Up returns April 28

The Hood River County School District will hold its annual Kindergarten Roundup during the week of April 28 to May 2. This is the time for parents to register their children entering kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year.

Parents are to register their children at their local school on the following dates and times:

Cascade Locks — Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

May Street Elementary — Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Also, May Street is having a parent orientation on May 15 at 6 p.m.

Mid Valley Elementary — Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Parkdale Elementary — Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.

Westside Elementary — Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-2:35 p.m.

Also, Westside is having an incoming kindergarten parent open house on April 28 from 6-7 p.m.

Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to meet the age requirement for entry into kindergarten.

Parents need to bring the following to registration:

n Child’s birth certificate, immunization records, and Social Security card (voluntary)

n Proof of residency in Hood River County:

  1. Parent electric bill

  2. Other utility bill

  3. Current rent receipt with address signed by landlord or mortgage statement

  4. Oregon driver’s license or DMV card or voter’s registration card.


Oregon law requires the following shots for a child entering kindergarten:

(These vaccinations may be obtained from your family doctor, local county health department, or health screening clinic.)

(5) Diphtheria/Tetanus/ Pertussis (DTaP)

(4) Polio

(1) Varicella (chickenpox)

(2) Measles

(1) Mumps

(1) Rubella

(3) Hepatitis B

(2) Hepatitis A
