Kegler’s Corner: Nobi's sweeps Workshirkers

The bowling season is winding down to a feverish close at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes, thus producing lots of outstanding action in leagues. Here’s a recap from last week:

After finishing in an uncharacteristic second place last season, the Nobi’s team dynasty has returned in dominating style in the Tuesday morning ladies Workshirkers. The powerhouse quartet took first place in both halves of the league to become the default champion for this season. This total sweep by Nobi’s means a roll-off is not necessary. This star-studded team has emerged as champions from the fray of battle in this league so many times we’ve lost count! Congrats to the champs — all legends in organized women’s bowling in Hood River — Shirley Thornhill, Nina Kruckenberg, Charlotte Severns and Nancy Asai. Many thanks to everybody who bowled in the Workshirkers league; we hope to see all of you next season.

The Snickering Seniors and Go Granny Go teams rolled off this week for the second-half winner in the Wednesday afternoon Seniors Colts and Fillies league.

As far as outstanding individual performances last week, there were many. The topper had to be Mac Proffitt, who scattered the sticks to the tune of a sparkling 266 game and 655 series in the Wednesday night Fraternal league. Mac’s fine evening put him 118 pins over his average, the most by anyone in league action last week. That makes Mac the Bowler of the Week. He also made the team of the week for the first time this season, which is something to be really proud of as there are so many excellent bowlers in Hood River that you’ve got to beat in order to attain this honor.

The Wednesday afternoon Senior Colts and Fillies league was the scene of three fine efforts by lefty John Miller, Larry Scroggins and Lynn Spellman. John led this trio by beating his average by 114 pins. He was followed closely by Larry Scroggins, who rode a big 222 game to end up 111 pins over his average. Watch out, there may be a party at Scroggies! And, Lynn Spellman really had the pins under his spell in the session, spilling a huge 266 game that propelled him to a big-time 691 series that was 106 pins better than his average.

Last but certainly not least was superstar Bernice (Bernie) Keys, who punched put a shiny 233 game and a super 624 series in the Workshirkers. On doing that number to the pins, Bernie ended up 105 pins over her average. Great bowling everybody!

Team of the Week:

Greg McDaniel (14), 729

Lynn Spellman (6), 691

Matt Hodges (2), 678

Mac Proffitt (1), 655

Roger Montavon (8), 654
