Mark your calendars: The annual event that local gardeners look forward to each year returns again on Saturday, May 10. That’s the date for the OSU Central Gorge Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale in Hood River.
The Spring Plant Sale will be held, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in The Learning Garden on the OSU Extension Grounds, 2990 Experiment Station Road.
This annual fundraising event is known throughout the area as having a wide selection of quality plants at reasonable prices. This year’s selection includes over 3,000 plants: native trees and shrubs, flowering perennials, vegetable starts, ground covers, sedum, ornamental grasses, herbs and drought tolerant plants.
OSU Master Gardeners will be available at the sale to answer all of your gardening questions, whether it’s plant selection or pest problems. There will be a supply of worms for sale for those interested in vermiculture. And the Hood Hoppers 4-H club will again be selling snacks and drinks.
Proceeds from the Spring Plant Sale help to fund the Central Gorge Master Gardener Association and its programs. OSU Master Gardeners provide information to the public regarding plant diseases, pest problems and other gardening questions through Plant Clinics in the OSU Extension office and at area farmers markets. Seminars on composting, gardening, weed prevention and other topics are offered throughout the year.
Central Gorge Master Gardeners also maintain or work with others in many public gardens in our region including the Hood River County Library Garden, the Hood River Care Center Garden, the Gorge Heritage Museum Garden, One Community Health Garden, the Parkdale Bi-Centennial Memorial Garden and the Learning Garden surrounding the OSU Extension Service office.
