Sports briefs for Aug. 2

Sports slideshow Saturday at Hood River Hostel

The Columbia Gorge Windsurfing Association, Columbia Gorge Kiteboarding Association, photographer Grant Myrdal and the new Hood River Hostel have teamed up to host an evening of multi-sport fun at the hostel’s 220 Clearwater Lane location. The event will run from 7-10 p.m. Saturday night and will include beer, pizza, a slide show of Myrdal’s 2014 greatest hits from action on the Columbia River, all with the goal of generating stoke and camaraderie between the two user groups.

Bernie Fagan Soccer Camp runs next week

The well-known and long-running Bernie Fagan Soccer Camp program comes to Hood River next week, Aug. 4-8 at Hood River Middle School. Registration is run through Hood River Community Education and must be done in advance. The camp is open to players of all skill levels and will be divided into a recreational camp for less-experienced players ages 5-12 and a competitive camp for intermediate and advanced players ages 10-14. Youth tennis camps coming up

The mother/daughter duo of Leslie and Kenzie Kerr have two tennis camps coming up in early August. First up is a middle school and high school camp Aug. 4-8, from 10 noon each day at the city tennis courts on May Street. The cost is $68 per player and the camp will focus on basic skills and match play strategies, with a mini tournament scheduled for the final day. The second camp runs Aug. 11-14, from 10 a.m. to noon, and is open to players ages 8-12. The camp will focus on skills for beginner and intermediate players.
