BOTG Kite/windsurf Blowout race slated for Saturday

Rescheduled from two weeks ago due to lack of wind, the Bridge of the Gods Kitefest Blowout race from Stevenson to Hood River will, wind willing, take place Saturday (backup wind day Sunday).

The Blowout has a long history in the Gorge, and this year history will be made as kiteboarders and windsurfers compete alongside one another in a unique format that places participants from the two sports onto teams.

The event is recommended for advanced kiters and windsurfers only, and support on the 17-mile stretch of the river will be limited.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. Saturday; a riders’ meeting will follow at 11 a.m., teams will be formed at 11:30 a.m. and the earliest start time is slated for 1 p.m.

Registration is $30 per person and a barbecue and awards ceremony will follow the race at the Hood River sandbar (spit parking area). For more info see
