Sports Briefs for Aug. 13

Blowout postponed, again

The Blowout downwind kite/windsurfing race has again been postponed due to uncooperative wind conditions on race day; it is now scheduled for Aug. 16. The event – newly reworked as a combination kiteboarding and windsurfing race by organizers of the Bridge of the Gods Kite Fest – was originally scheduled for July 27, but had to be rescheduled due to lack of wind. The rescheduled date was Sunday, but again wind did not cooperate. Organizers are hoping the third time is the charm, but if not, the race will be held on the next possible day after Aug. 16. Registration opens at 9 a.m. race day. For up-to-date info, see www.nwkite.com.

Don’t forget Battling Bob (Hanel) Memorial Tourney

The inaugural Battling Bob Memorial Tournament is set for Saturday, Aug. 16 at Indian Creek Golf Course. The tournament is a four-person scramble in memory of Bob Hanel, who was an avid golfer and active community member. The cost is $75 per player, which will serve as a fundraiser for the HRVHS golf program. Register at the course’s pro shop or call 541-386-7770 as soon as possible.
