John Michael Montgomery headlines HR County Fair

Hood River County Fair headliner John Michael Montgomery takes to the main stage at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26, presented by Griffith Motors. He has had more than 30 singles on the Billboard country charts, including five that went to number one and 13 more in the top 10. He received the CMA Horizon award, was named the ACM’s Top New Vocalist, received CMA awards for Single and Song of the Year, has been Billboard’s Top Country Artist, and earned a Grammy nomination.

Banda LM performs on the main stage from 8-10 p.m. on Friday.

All musical performances are free with paid admission to the fair. Also free with admission are many other attractions, including the “Walk on the Wild Side” exotic animal show, displaying a wide range of exotic animals and reptiles in a jungle atmosphere.

‘Fire Weeds’ Trio in Dufur July 26

Enjoy a concert at one of Oregon’s oldest hotels, the Historic Balch Hotel on Saturday, July 26, from 5-8 p.m. with the Fire Weeds Trio playing its brand of “Wide Open Americana” music (www.facebook.com/

thefireweeds). The concerts are free and open to the entire family. At each concert food, beer, wine, ice cream, and sodas will be available for purchase. The Dufur Historical Society annual fundraising barbeque will be available. Guests can bring a blanket, lawn chair, or just enjoy the lawn.

‘Art & Wine Fusion’ July 26

Come to the 10th annual White Salmon Art & Wine Fusion on Saturday, July 26, from 3-10 p.m. The streets will be closed to traffic for the best block party in the Gorge. You’ll find local art, local wines, ciders and microbrews, plus live music on stage, great food and kid friendly activities. Downtown White Salmon, Wash.

‘Remains’ gallery opens Aug. 1

An art opening featuring work by Nate Chavez and Nic Vik happens Friday, Aug. 1 at The Remains, 500 Industrial Ave, Hood River, at 7 p.m. Enjoy live music by the Clambake Combo and Liggo, beverages from Solera and authentic Lagniappe Gumbo from Garret Arceneaux.

Bluegrass festival this weekend

2014 marks the 31st anniversary of the Columbia Gorge Bluegrass Festival, and the celebration boasts some of the biggest stars in bluegrass. This year features the James King Band, John Reischman and the Jaybirds, Bryan Bowers and Dan Crary and Thundernation. They join the Great Northern Planes, Sam Hill, the Barn Door Slammers, and The Green Mountain Bluegrass Band July 24-27 when the event hits the Skamania County Fairgrounds in scenic Stevenson, Wash.
