Several versions of a video to Pharrell’s hit song, “Happy,” helped define the 2013-14 school year at Hood River Valley High School.
Students and staff gleefully participated in sophomore Parker Kennedy’s production, shown at last week’s send-off for HRVHS seniors.
In those moments, we could all set aside for a moment the sobering reality of budget cuts that the school district had to make for the 2014-15 school year.
Perhaps the way to look at it is that the camaraderie and confidence shown by so many students and staff in the “Happy” clip will go far to helping carry each other through tougher times ahead.
In appreciation of this school year, as it winds down: This was a year when students excelled in athletics and academics, and continue to do so; at this writing, the HRVHS softball and baseball teams, senior athletes included, stand a strong chance of continuing their post-season play Saturday, the day after graduation.
It’s a fitting expression for what has been a year of excellence at HRVHS and Horizon Christian School.
All the more reason to cue up “Happy” again, and witness the delight, among many, of a mild-mannered physics teacher traipsing around the lab in time to the music.
At Horizon Christian School and HRVHS, and for those local graduates completing post-high school degrees, we wish all the best to the Class of 2014.
Enjoy your commencement ceremonies, celebrate safely, and savor the time you have in the presence of friends and family, for big changes are afoot. When things get rough at school or the new job or with the employment search, cue up the video for a new sense of energy to take on the challenge ahead.
Many Happy returns, Seniors.
