Local students earn Ford Foundation scholarships

The Ford Family Foundation has selected 104 students from Oregon and 16 students from Siskiyou County, Calif., as new Ford Scholars. This year’s Ford Scholars were chosen from 5,282 applicants.

Eligibility criteria include financial need and merit qualifications. In addition, Scholars must attend an accredited, nonprofit college in their home state and be pursuing a bachelor’s degree full-time.

The renewable scholarship covers 90 percent of each student’s unmet financial need for each academic year.

Ford Program Scholarship awardees are Austyn Polzel of Hood River Valley High School, who plans to attend Oregon State University, and Austin Requa of Cascade Locks, a Horizon Christian School student who plans to attend Linfield College.

The Ford Opportunity Scholarship awardee Katie Francis, the Opportunity Scholar, attends Hood River Valley High School and plans to attend Oregon Health and Science University.
