Join an opportunity to celebrate equal rights in Oregon, as Oregon United for Marriage hosts its final musical celebration this Saturday, honoring the right of same gender couples to marry in the state. ORU4M and Columbia Center for the Arts will co-host an evening with music from Mazama, on Saturday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. A $10 per person donation is suggested.
The marriage law changed following a May 15 ruling by Oregon Federal District Court Judge Michael McShane and the subsequent denial by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy of an opposition appeal. Because of these rulings, a ballot initiative, for which 166,000 signatures were gathered state-wide — 1,000 in Hood River — will not appear on the November ballot.
Mazama, formerly LoLoMotion, features Mark Daly on guitar, mandolin and vocal, George Bentz on fretless bass and Jason Russ, percussionist extraordinaire. Beer and wine will be available for purchase in the lobby. A donation of $10 per person is requested to help cover the evening’s expenses.
