48 Hour Film awards June 28

Awards for the recent 48 Hour Film Project will be presented on Saturday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Columbia Center for the Arts. The event will screen and showcase the short films made by the participating teams. Film sponsors included Columbia Center for the Arts, Sheppard’s, Smiley’s Red Barn, Foxtail Cider, Ground Central Coffee Station and Mt. Defiance Fruit Company. The winning film receives a $500 prize, 2nd is $250 and 3rd place is $100. Winning films will also be shown during the Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival. Columbia Center for the Arts is located at 215 Cascade Ave. in Hood River.

MacMillan at Sandbar Cafe

Guitarist Jim MacMillan, Jerry Keith on electric bass and Randy Bell, the master of percussion, will be performing all original music at the Sandbar Cafe at the Hood River waterfront on Friday, June 27, from 6-8 p.m.

Willy & Nelson play June 29

The Gorge White House hosts local music on Sunday June 29, with country and pop tunes from Willy & Nelson from 3-6 p.m. outside on the patio. No cover charge. The Gorge White House, 2265 Hwy 35, Hood River; 386-2828.

Chamber singers June 28

The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association proudly presents the Portland State University Chamber Singers under the direction of internationally recognized director and composer Ethan Sperry, Saturday, June 28, at 7 p.m. at Riverside Community Church, 4th and State St., Hood River. The program will include classical music by Purcell, Bruckner, Barber, Esenvalds and Norgard, plus spirituals, world music and pop songs. Admission is free. Donations are accepted in support of the Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association.

Larry & Raven play June 28

Science!, Fire Weeds at CEBU

Saturday, June 29: The Fire Weeds 9:30 p.m. “The Fire Weeds call their blend of blues- tinged rock, bluegrass and country... Wide Open Americana. Mixing elements of jam music with tight vocal harmonies and song-craft, dance-ability is a sure thing. The Fire Weeds features noted multi-instrumentalist Alan Glickenhaus. Art show features 2D, 3D work

The July show at The Dalles Art Center features the work of 2D artist Dennis McGregor and 3D artist Kris Joy. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, July 3, from 5-7 p.m. The show is hosted by Celeste Minnis and Shannon Morgan. The Dalles Art Center, 229 E. 4th St., The Dalles, 541-296-4759.

Ruins open at Springhouse

Hood River's Springhouse Cellar announces the opening of its summer Ruins Tuesdays Concert Series. This popular weekly series features live music from top NW bands, local wines, beers and specialty food vendors. The events will be free and all-ages from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and then become 21 and over only after 7 p.m., with a $3 entrance fee. Attendees will be able to avoid the $3 entry fee by arriving before 7 p.m. In case of inclement weather, shows will move inside to the Back Room at Springhouse Cellar.
