Robotics ‘Channel 4’ team advances

Channel 4 News Team — Russel Grim, Will Lamer, Charles Sutherland and Myles Cameron — advanced to Super Regionals in California with its performance last weekend at the Oregon First Technology Challenge competition at Benson Tech High School in Portland.

The squad joins fellow Hood River Valley High School robotics competitors Blackhawks in qualifying for the Super Regionals March 20-22 near Sacramento. Team Meta and JV Cuts also competed at Oregon FTC.

Blackhawks team members are Josh True, Delia Dolan, Naomi Greenwald, Marcus Crouch, Tony Cohn, Marten Sova and Taylor Cramer.

“Congratulations to all three teams that went to state,” advisor Jeff Blackman said. “All three teams should feel proud of their achievements; the competition was the toughest I have seen and that includes worlds. The Channel 4 News team was ranked second after five qualifying rounds and advanced with JV Cuts to the final elimination rounds.

“Unfortunately a low NXT battery and some bad luck stopped them from going to the final rounds. But their effort was enough to advance Channel 4 news team to Super Regionals along with Blackhawks,” Blackman said.

“Once again, thank you to all of the parents, mentors, and coaches for making this year’s HRVHS Robotics one of the best ever,” Blackman said. “We couldn’t do it without your support.”

The team members of Channel 4 News team are: Russel Grim, Charlie Sutherland, William Lamer and Arthur Finstad. Not Myles Cameron. ( He is not part of this team). Scott Sutherland was the boys coach and spent hours and hours with the boys helping them achieve this success! It would be nice if Scott got some recognition for all his help! He drove the boys to Portland the night before due to the snow and ice on I84. Thank you!
