Mid Valley Elementary School held its annual Art Week last week, and Family Night, showcasing student work, will be held at the school March 13; watch for information regarding times coming home with your child this week.
Students were able to choose from 10 different media opportunities — painting, ukulele, fused glass, cooking and science, Taiko drumming, photography, clay, wearable art, batik and weaving — and all will be represented at the show.
Community Education’s Mid Valley Preschool, a bilingual preschool and childcare program located at Mid Valley Elementary, is already planning for the 2014-15 school year.
“If parents are thinking about preschool for their children, this is the time to call, visit or sign up for next fall,” says teacher Socci Galvez.
To schedule a visit, call Galvez at 541-387-5722 (site) or 541-399-4840 (cell), or email email@example.com.
St. Francis House kids had a couple of fun field trips in February. On Valentine’s Day, 18 Mid Valley Elementary youth visited The Craftroom on the Heights in Hood River to paint ceramics, chaperoned by Rebecca Brochu with help from owner Sarah Benson. Students were able to take home their projects that day. Hood River County Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention Coalition funded the outing.
The Coalition funded another trip the next day, when 10 kids, ranging in age from 5-14, attended the Oregon Children’s Theater production of “Charlotte’s Web” in Portland. Jesuit Volunteer Corps members Hanna Ladwig, Anna Osborn and Sarah Christensen chaperoned with St. Francis founder Patrick Rawson.
Afterwards, the group visited with cast members and got autographs.
“The kids loved the show, especially Charlotte, who was doing aerial acrobatics,” said Ladwig. “They also loved the tiny baby spiders at the very end.”
The Blossom Craft Show at the Hood River County Fairgrounds in Odell is still signing up vendors for the April 19-20 event. Applications are available online at hoodriverfair.org.
This annual craft show attracts vendors and visitors from all over the Pacific Northwest.
