Last week the Tuesday Nite Mixed league had its championship roll-off at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes. This was a four-team contest between the top teams from the first and second halves of the league, Radcomp, the Screaming Eagles, Double A Orchards and Gutt-Er-Dun. The format was a three game total pin match.
The Gutt-Er-Dun quartet emerged victorious by a narrow 33 pin margin. Bowling for the champs were Judy and Bob Mason and Jennifer and Jeremy Bloom. Jeremy keyed the win with a solid 654 series that was highlighted by a nice 249 game. Congratulations to the champs of this ardently popular league. It has a bit of everything; it’s fun, competitive and social. Many thanks to all 12 teams who bowled in the league, we can’t wait to see all of you next season.
As far as individual action on the lanes last week, Mark Chabotte had a spectacular night in the Monday Industrial league, where he rolled a huge 798 series on games of 266, 254 and 278. The U.S. Bank staffer could hardly get any closer to that magical and USBC award-winning 800 series. His third and final game was his best ; it was a 278 — 11 out of 12 possible strikes — and you can’t get much better than that.
It goes to show you how difficult it is to roll that elusive 800 series — one of the most challenging achievements in the game. Nevertheless, a 798 set is awesome and something to be very proud of. Mark finished the night 168 pins over his average, which clearly makes him the Bowler of the Week.
Honorable mention has to go to Ted Rosenberg in the same session. Ted fired a fine 245 game and 648 series which was 141 pins over his average. Most of the time an effort like that would be good enough to earn bowler of the week, but not this time. Great bowling everybody!
