The Dalles Dam hosts an amazing race, geocache style

Do you like treasure hunts? Geocaching is a big, outdoor treasure hunt, and park rangers at The Dalles Lock and Dam invite the public to take part in an amazing race, geocache style, between 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday, March 29.

Seufert and Patterson parks will have five hidden geocaches. With a GPS unit or smartphone app, visitors can enter coordinates of a geocache, and follow the path to a hidden treasure.

Visitors can arrive at any time between 1 and 4 p.m. The event is open to all geocache skill levels, aimed toward beginners and families. Park rangers will offer introductions and guidance to geocaching to make this a memorable day with family and friends. All participants will receive treasures from each geocache, as well as a certificate upon completion of the race.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own GPS units or smartphones. A limited supply of GPS units will be available to be checked out to adult participants. More information about geocaching can be found at geocaching.com and the sponsoring U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ policy on geocaching can be found at http://1.usa.gov/1gj5kb4 under “Rules, policies and related.”

The Dalles Dam Visitor Center and Seufert Park are located just north of Interstate 84 at exit 87. Turn east onto Brett Clodfelter Way and follow the road to the visitor center. For more information, contact The Dalles Lock and Dam Ranger Office at 541-506-7857 or visit http://1.usa.gov/1jwQ618.
