Missing, suicidal man found at I-84 rest area

A missing Bainbridge Island, Wash., man who attempted to take his own life was transported to a Portland-area hospital after he was found by officers from Oregon State Police and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office Saturday inside a utility trailer at a rest area along Interstate 84 west of The Dalles.

On May 3, at approximately 10:23 p.m., an OSP trooper located a vehicle in the eastbound I-84 Memaloose rest area matching the description of one previously broadcasted for an attempt to locate related to a missing, possibly suicidal man out of Washington. After Wasco County deputies arrived to assist, they attempted contact with the 39-year-old man who they believed was inside a utility trailer attached to a Ford Excursion.

The officers entered the trailer and found the man lying on the floor moaning and in distress from an apparent overdose of pills.

The trooper rendered emergency medical care until local emergency medical responders came to the scene and took over. LifeFlight responded and took the man to Legacy Emanuel for treatment.
