Hershey’s Track Meet is Saturday

The annual Hershey’s Track Meet will take place Saturday, May 10, at Hood River Valley High School, starting at 11 a.m. The meet is open to Hood River County residents only and participants must be between the ages of 9 and 14 (as of Dec. 31). Roller Girls host home bout

The Gorge Roller Girls roller derby team hosts Vancouver’s Storm City Rollers Saturday in a home bout at Hood River Valley High School that promises to be an evening of rough and tumble fun. The bout is the team’s sixth of the season and the first in Hood River since the team debuted last year. Doors open at 5 p.m. and action starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and children six and younger are free. The team has one more home bout of the year on June 14 against the Atomic City Roller Girls. For more details visit gorgerollergirls.org.

Gorge Ultimate registration open

Registration for the popular Gorge Ultimate Frisbee is open now through June 5 for the three-month league that starts June 18. Games are held at Wy’east Middle School and the season concludes with a post-season tournament on Aug. 9 The fee is $35 per player, which includes a shirt and mid-season and end-of-season barbecues. Players must be at least 18 years old and teams are chosen by a draft.

Duffy, Johnston represent HR at regional volleyball tourney

More than 200 club volleyball teams from across Oregon competed at the Columbia Empire Volleyball Association tournament April 26-27 at the Portland Convention Center. Clubs brought teams from 12U through 18U to qualify for nationals and to see how they compare to other teams in the area. Among the thousands of players were Shae Duffy and Rebecca Johnston. Duffy’s team, Portland Volleyball Club’s 14U team won its division by going undefeated, while Johnston’s 16U team from the same club finished 41st in its age group.

CSRT Mt. Bike Club enrollment opens

Enrollment is now open for Cooper Spur Race Team’s 2014 Summer Youth Mt. Bike Club. The club rides every other week in July and August. Riding sessions include an hour of technical coaching, followed by 90 minutes of riding. The club is open to 10-15-year-olds. HRVST competes

Hood River Valley Swim Team was in Central Oregon last weekend for the Bend Swim Club Long Course Invitational. Of the 15 HRVST members competing (pictured here at the meet), 17-year-old Kylie Webb had top marks, finishing in the top three in four of five events she entered. Also in the senior division, 15-year-old Dhani Freeland had a strong outing as well, posting top-10 results in all six of her events.

Top-10 finishes were:

Dhani Freeland: 200 breast, 3rd; 50 free, 7th; 400 free, 8th; 200 back, 8th; 100 breast, 5th; 100 fly, 7th

Danielle Miller: 100 back, 9th; 200 breast, 10th; 200 back, 9th

Kylie Webb: 200 IM, 2nd; 50 free, 4th; 100 free, 3rd; 400 IM, 2nd; 100 fly, 3rd
