Capt. Barbara Bell will speak May 20 in White Salmon

Soroptimist International of Mt. Adams will present speaker Captain Barbara Bell (U.S. Navy retired) on Tuesday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the White Salmon Community Library.

Bell is a Hood River resident and an active supporter of the Gorge community Soroptimists.

A charismatic leader, mentor and scholar, Bell seeks to empower women and teens to succeed in their personal and professional lives. Her “Learning to Fly” speech, which draws upon her unique background climbing the ranks as a female leader in the U.S. Navy, is focused on giving young leaders the courage to fly and pursue their biggest dreams.

Bell is a Naval Academy graduate, naval aviator, career naval officer and retired navy captain. She forged a path for women in the Navy, first graduating at the top of her class in flight school and then going on to graduate from Naval Test Pilot School “with distinction.”

During her career, she flew more than 35 different types of aircraft, including the F-14, F-15, F-16 and F/A-18.

All members of the Gorge community are welcome to attend this free event.
