Insurance Services Office Inc. informed the City of Mosier by letter dated May 6, 2014, that Public Protection Classifications have improved for both the City of Mosier and the rest of the Mosier Fire District.
PPC’s are on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the best and 10 being uninsurable.
Previously, the City of Mosier was classified 7. The new PPC for the City of Mosier is 5.
The PPC for the rest of the Mosier Fire District improves from 6/9 to 5/5Y, roughly equivalent to 5/8B under ISO’s old grading system.
ISO’s classification ratings are used by many insurance companies as part of the basis for setting premiums for policies covering personal and commercial property.
An improvement in PPC often means lower premiums for property owners. Mosier property owners are encouraged to contact their insurance agents with news of the improved PPC, as underwriters don’t necessarily check for themselves.
The recent change in ISO classification was brought about at the request of Mosier Fire Chief Jim Appleton. Steady improvement in training, volunteer responses, and equipment in the Mosier Fire Department account for most of the new classifications. If you know volunteer firefighters in Mosier, you might thank them for their hard work.
Appleton is cautiously optimistic that further improvement in Mosier’s PPC is within reach.
