Kids track meet May 19

A fun kids track meet is set for Monday, May 19, 6 p.m. at Hood Rier Valley High School. The event is a fun, non-competitive track meet to introduce young athletes to the track and field events. No experience is necessary and no registration is required; just show up and be ready to run, throw, or jump. The fee is just $1 per child.

HRVHS cheerleading meeting is May 20

Any current or incoming high school student interested in trying out for fall cheerleading at Hood River Valley High School must attend an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 20 in the HRVHS library. Payne hits hole-in-one

Hood River’s Bill Payne sunk a hole-in-one at Hood River Golf Course’s 130-yard hole three on May 14, 2014; witnesses were Tom Godwin and George Smith.

Hood River Yacht Club is hosting a season kickoff celebration Sunday at the Hood River Marina, open to members, non-members and interested new members of the community. A boat parade will start the festivities at noon, followed by open sailing at 2 p.m. with members of the Columbia Gorge Sailing Team that will give the community the chance to get on the water with members of the newly-established high school team.

Activities continue with a 3 p.m. HRYC social and a 4 p.m. barbeque fundraiser ($10, $5 for 12 and under) to help raise money for the Gorge Sailing Team.

HRYC now has junior memberships for young sailors; students through senior year of high school can join as independent members for a fee of $25. For more info see hoodriveryachtclub.org.
