All-Conference baseball, softball teams announced

A solid lineup of HRVHS baseball and softball players were voted onto the 2014 Columbia River Conference All-Conference team. For baseball, Ryan Ward, Kellan Duffy, Skyler Hunter and Alix Jimenez were named to First Team and Austin Martin was honorable mention. For softball, senior Annie Veatch got top honors as Player of the Year, coach Eric Keller got co-Coach of the Year honors, Kayla Byers got Pitcher of the Year, Byers, Veatch, Kelsey Wells, Erika Enriquez and Jessie Karr made the First Team and Second Team honors went to Made Vallejo, Breanna Weekly, Kinalu Bailey and Sydney McHale.

HRV softball, lacrosse host playoff games May 28

5A No. 2-ranked HRVHS softball at-home playoff game May 28 (time and opponent to be determined) at Westside School for the first round of the state championships. The same day, at HRVHS, the varsity boys lacrosse team hosts a 7 p.m. game in the first round of the newly created Cascade Cup — a mini tournament for teams that did not qualify for the state playoffs.

Gorge FC hosts Spartans Saturday

The Hood River-based semi-pro soccer team, Gorge FC, hosts a home game Saturday, 7 p.m. at Hood River Valley High School against the league’s top team, the Spartans out of Portland. The team also hosts home games June 15 (3 p.m.) vs. the Spartans, June 21 (7 p.m.) vs. Seattle Sporting FC and June 28 vs. Inter United FC. Tickets are $7 at the door or $5 in advance at gorgefc.com.
