Among 2013 “Operators of the Year” awards, Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) this year bestowed an Annual Merit Award to WyEast Timber Services, a Hood River company. Each year, ODF recognizes timber companies that show outstanding, innovative, proactive forestry management practices. The Merit Awards are given to regional companies that exhibit qualities that include responsible harvesting, replanting after harvesting, protecting streamside areas, and protecting and providing wildlife and fish habit.
WyEast Timber Services is owned and operated by Hood River residents Paul Jones and Matt Hegerberg.
The company’s logging operations around streams, roads, homes, power lines, and railroads and fire-suppression work was recognized. Specifically, WyEast Timber Services was applauded for their work on the Government Flats fire, and noted for their ability to balance the needs of small landowners and still protect natural resources.
“Receiving this award is a great honor, and we’re pleased to be recognized for our responsible timber management practices and our work on the fires. With each job, whether for a small landowner or a government contract, we apply our high-standards of enhancing the environment through sustainable logging practices and proper forestry management,” notes Paul Jones.
