Kegler’s Corner: Eskildsen shines

Team of the Week

Woody Eskildsen, +138

Karen Shortt, +108

Quinton Cox, +107

Jan Halstead, +98

Gordon Sim, +97

Woody Eskildsen earned top honors in league action last week at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes. Woody scattered the sticks like a pro in the Monday night Industrial league, finishing the session with a super scratch 258 game. For the evening’s work, Woody was 138 pins over his average. We’ve been watching Woody’s progress and he’s definitely found some keys to successful bowling. The right hander has a nice smooth approach, finishes on the right side of the lane at the foul line which gives the best strike angle into the pins and rolls a nice hook.

These are three basic things to do to bowl well. Give ‘em a try, you may improve too!

While we’re on the subject of bowling well, include Karen Shortt in that thought. Big scores are never in Shortt Supply with Karen — she is one of the best in town with a long resume of outstanding bowling achievements to her credit. Karen was 108 pins over her average in the Tuesday Nite Mixed league after smashing a beautiful scratch 242 game to finish her outing.

Quinton Cox also joined the big stars on this team of the week after finding the range in the Industrial where he was 107 pins over his average. Quinton powered his team, last season’s Industrial league champions, 3 Fingers Deep, to a big win. We may be looking at a repeat!

The last two spots on the team of the week go to two of the top bowlers in town, Jan Halstead and Gordon Sim, who were also really hot in the Industrial. Jan just edged Gordon out in pins over average last week, plus 98 to 97. Both of these stars had mighty fine outings, but Gordon was simply spectacular, firing a huge scratch 769 series that was capped with big scratch 278 and 264 games. Jan notched a fine scratch 268 game and just missed a 700 with a scratch 698 series. Don’t feel sorry for Jan as he’s had more 700s that I-HOP has pancakes! Great bowling everybody!

Seniors, remember to get those entries in so you can bowl the very popular in-league senior tournament from October 19 through November 2. There will be men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles and singles events. Sign-up at Orchard Lanes or call Joyce Ebersole, at 509-493-1411. Entries close October 18.
