Eagles rebound from Pendleton loss with hard-fought five-setter at Hermiston

Jestena Mattson nailed a team-high nine kills, Jenny Packer scored four aces and Jessie Karr gave seven perfect passes to highlight Hood River Valley High School varsity volleyball action Tuesday evening in a home match against the Pendleton Buckaroos. Although they put up a good fight, the Eagles struggled to find momentum against the Columbia River Conference leaders, who won the match in three straight sets (25-17, 15-17, 25-19).

The Eagles continued the week with a road game Thursday at Hermiston, where they battled tooth and nail through four sets (21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 15-25) before losing the tie-breaker 15-12. Rebecca Johnston led the team with six perfect passes and two aces, Jessie Karr had eight kills, Packer added seven kills and nine digs, Bianca Badillo had a team-high 19 assists, Shae Duffy and Jessie Karr combined for three blocks and Lauren Winans, Jessie Karr and Guilia Bezzi each had eight digs.
