Gorge Soup sign-ups near, for adults and kids to present ‘pitches’

Gorge Soup is back, Nov. 11 for adults and Feb. 26 for kids.

Gorge Soup is an evening where people buy tickets to come to dinner and hear four to five community members speed-present their ideas for a new business or nonprofit in the Gorge.

At the end of the night, everyone at the dinner votes for their favorite business or nonprofit. The winner of the vote gets the ticket money (minus $7 for soup, bread, and minimal expenses).

“It’s a great way to meet new people and support individuals working to make our community a better place,” said organizer Julie O’Shea. In the past, many of our evenings have resulted in awarding entrepreneurs $1,500 to $3,000.

Adult Gorge Soup details:

Nov. 11, 2014 at Celilo Restaurant and Bar. There are 60 tickets costing $35. To buy tickets, go to: brownpapertickets.com/event/880628 Applications to present are due Oct. 28 by 11:59 p.m. The application to present is attached below.

Gorge Soup for Kids will be Feb. 26, 2015 at Springhouse Cellars. There are 125 tickets costing $25 each. To buy tickets, go to: www.brownpapertickets.com/event/888297 Applications to present are due Feb. 5, 2015. Applications will be available later this year.

(According to O’Shea, “Gorge Soup for the Arts” is being contemplated for next spring. The event would work like the other two Gorge Soups, but rather than invest in a business or nonprofit, funding would support local artists.)
