Curtis Salgado returns to CG Hotel Sept. 6

Award-winning vocalist/songwriter/harmonica icon Curtis Salgado, touring in support of his blistering Alligator Records debut CD, “Soul Shot,” will perform at the Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River on Sunday, Sept. 6. Salgado won three 2013 Blues Music Awards including the coveted B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. He also won for Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year for the second consecutive year, and for Soul Blues Album of the Year. Salgado effortlessly mixes R&B, funk and blues with a delivery that is raw and heartfelt. He moves with ease from the tenderest ballads to the most full-throated stompers. Open Mic at White Buffalo

On Thursday, Aug. 27, it’s Open Mic night on the White Buffalo patio, from 6-8 p.m. The Open Mic is hosted by Willy & Nelson with sound and lighting by John Cyparski. Plays for Non-Profits continues Aug. 27-29

Join Plays for Non-Profits for the final weekend of the staged readings of two plays: “Inherit the Wind” and “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail” at Columbia Center for the Arts in downtown Hood River the weekend of Aug. 27-29. These plays were written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee as co-playwright and share a common theme, “The Art of Protest.” Both plays have special meaning to the directors and actors producing these shows and they have added music and special lighting to entertain the audience. “Thoreau” is on Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. and “Wind” is on Aug. 27 and Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. Proceeds from these productions benefit the SMART program, Hood River County Libraries, The Next Door and Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute. Henry Schifter at Stonehedge

Singer-guitarist Henry Schifter plays every Wednesday in August from 6-8 p.m., outside in the gardens. The solo acoustic show will feature international ballads and blues for the dinner crowd. Stonehedge Gardens is located at 3405 Wine Country Ave., Hood River; 541-386-3940.
