Groove Project celebrates new Christmas CD; shows Dec. 6, 13

Get into the holiday spirit this year with a new CD from Tim Mayer and The Groove Project as they celebrate the release of “The Groove Project Grooves Christmas,” featuring holiday classics, original holiday tunes inspired by the scenic Hood River area and plenty of piano-based jazz interpretations to help make the season bright. This year's Groove Project Christmas family-friendly concerts will be on two dates at the Columbia Center for the Arts: Sunday, Dec 6, and Sunday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. Tickets $15 adults, $10 seniors/children.

Jazz at Butler Building Dec. 11

Henry Schifter and Dan Crothers will be joined by Mike Stillman for an evening of favorite international jazz interpretations for the Butler Bank Social Club, which meets from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11. Also catch them on Dec. 18. Butler Bank Building, 301 State St., Hood River.


‘Man of Movember’ at Butler Bank

‘Man of Movember’ happens Friday at Butler Bank Social Club, 301 Oak St. Trevor Sheehan greets owner Stephanie Laur at the recent Beards and Bingo event. Vote for one of about 12 hirsute contestants Friday by purchasing $1 ballots, proceeds going to WINGS program, which serves young men with life skills, job training and services. Friday’s event starts at 4 p.m., with balloting happening sometime prior to the 7 p.m. tree lighting.

Norris, Daly at White Buffalo

Come hear a Northwestern swing duo play heartfelt originals and interesting covers at The White Buffalo on Thursday, Dec. 3. “The warm harmonies of Polly Norris and Mark Daly will embrace you like a long lost friend.” Expect a few musical guests, too. Voci Choir plays Dec. 3-4

The Voci Community Choir directed by Mark Steighner will present “Voci and Friends” Winter Choral Concerts Thursday, Dec. 3, and Friday Dec. 4, at 7 p.m., in the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center, 3000 Wy’east Road.

The choir will perform selections from Giancarlo Menotti’s beloved Christmas opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” “Shropshire Psalms,” a set of choral pieces by English composer Jessica Curry and other seasonal choral works. Also on the program will be two guest ensembles, the Intermediate Strings, directed by Chari Bickford, and the Gorge Brass Ensemble. Both ensembles will be performing Suites written for them by music director Steighner. The concert will end with an audience sing-a-long of some beloved carols. Mipso at River City Dec. 9

“Despite not having a record label or major national press, Mipso have been performing to growing audiences across the country — mostly through word-of-mouth.
