On Saturday, June 20 at 3 p.m., the Mercado del Valle Farmers’ Market in Odell opens for the season at Mid Valley Elementary. The Mercado del Valle offers something for everyone with a diverse set of vendors selling locally raised vegetables, fruit, meat, cheese, eggs, honey, and bread. Prepared food vendors will offer hot food and authentic Mexican cuisine. In addition, live music, weekly folkloric dancing and children’s activities create a festive family-friendly atmosphere. The market is open every Saturday from 3-6 p.m. from June 20 until September 26 at Mid Valley Elementary.
Gorge Grown Food Network (GGFN) is excited to announce new programs for children and low-income families at the Mercado del Valle this year. GGFN will be piloting the POP (Power of Produce) Club, wherein every child that attends the Mercado this year will receive a free $2 token to spend on fruits or vegetables. Moreover, GGFN has increased SNAP match to $10 at the Mercado. Any customer using EBT/Food Stamps at the market will be given up to an additional $10 each week. The Mercado is also a great place to use WIC and Senior (FDNP) Coupons.
The Mercado del Valle is still accepting new vendors in any capacity. There are three ways to sell at the market. A vendor can buy a space at the market for $10 a week, could share a space with another vendor for a total of $15, or sell at the community table for just a small fee.
If you are interested in selling at the Mercado or would like more information, contact the market coordinator Hannah Ladwig at 414-828-3760 or Hannah@gorgegrown.com.
The Mercado del Valle is more than a farmers’ market; it’s a community gathering space! Every week neighbors and families are invited to come out to support local farmers and producers, socialize with each other, and learn healthy living techniques. There will be great events at the market this year, including OSU Extension cooking demos, community yoga, zumba, soccer tournaments, and visits from the Hood River Library for market attendees to check out books. No matter your reason for coming, we hope to see you at the Mercado del Valle this year!
