Reunion concert May 23 at HRMS

Outgoing HRVHS music director Mark Steighner will lead the May 23 reunion choir concert at 7 p.m. at Hood River Middle School auditorium (a previous article contained the wrong location).

The concert is free; Hood River Education Foundation will accept donations to the Mark Steighner Teacher Grant for District Music teachers. Teacher grants are one of the three major activities of HRCEF, along with post-secondary scholarships and projects to support students.

Steighner has assembled more than 80 graduates of his program for the concert, similar to one he did five years ago.

Expect music from the reunion choir, some solos, a mini-reunion performance by Aurora, and some anecdotes and testimonials, according to Steighner.

Steighner will retires this June after 36 years in the Hood River County School District. However, he is already busy with future projects including the musical “Next to Normal” at CAST this summer, and a “musical murder mystery” he is writing for Hood River Middle School drama department in 2015-16.
