‘Most Valuable Student’ scholarship deadline Dec. 4

The Hood River Elks local “Most Valuable Student” scholarship deadline is Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. Applications must be registered online, or must be turned into the Hood River Elks Lodge, located at Third and Cascade, by 6 p.m. Applications may also submitted to the high school by 3 p.m.

Three boys and three girls will be chosen from all local applications. These winners will then compete at the Northeast District and possibly state and national contests with scholarships available from $1,400 to $500,000.

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarship to the highest rated applicants in the 2015-2016 competition.

Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States on the date their applications are signed are eligible to apply. Permanent legal resident status does not quality. Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks. College students are not eligible. Male and female applicants compete separately.

Applications will be bases on SAT/ACT scores, grades, financial need, employment, community service, honors and awards and short essay. For those who need assistance, call Linda Sanders at 541-490-0709.
