After a performance of Thanksgiving and patriotic songs, students visiting Parkhurst Place on Nov. 22 were told, “Thank you for your gift, and now we have gifts for each of you.” Asked a couple of kids, being kids, “Is it cookies?” No, something even better, Rachel Bisbee, left, of Parkhurst told them. The students were then shown to a separate room and Bisbee and Activities Director Terri Hansen (rear, right) unveiled a table full of hats. “We want each of you to take one as a winter gift from the staff and residents of Parkhurst,” Bisbee said. The kids exulted and began trying them on at Bisbee’s invitation. The students took off the handmade headgear they wore for the event, and eagerly tried on the hats, which are made by staff and residents. At left, one example of a thank you note received the next day. “We’re constantly knitting around here,” Hansen said. The students thanked the residents before leaving, and then headed back to school, each in a warm hat for the four-block walk.
