HRV volleyball to face Bend in playoffs

HRV volleyball, fresh off winning its first conference title in 27 years, will face Bend in the first round of the OSAA 5A tournament, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m., in Hood River.

HRV enters the tournament as an eighth seed with an overall record of 12-5 and a Columbia River Conference record of 8-1. Bend enters the tournament as a ninth seed with an overall record of 11-10 with an Intermountain Conference record of 6-2.

The HRV Eagles have won 33 of their 54 sets this season (61 percent), while the Bend Lava Bears have won 39 of their 66 (59 percent).

The teams only share two similar opponents from the regular season: Redmond and Ridgeview. Both HRV and Bend beat Ridgeview by scores of 3-0 this season, but HRV lost to Ridgeview, 0-3, in their Oct. 8 meeting (a game HRV coach Scott Walker wrote off as the worst his squad had played all season), while Bend beat Ridgeview twice (3-1 on Sept. 17 and 3-0 Oct. 6).
