Water polo teams heading to playoffs

The HRV water polo teams will officially be heading to the playoffs thanks to Tuesday’s dispatching of Parkrose in Hood River, putting HRV in first place in the Metro 5A Conference. The boys won 14-6, and the girls had one of their highest-scoring games of the season, beating Parkrose, 17-7. Even though the team had already beat Parkrose once this year, HRV coach Kellie Dunn wanted her athletes to put up a dominant performance against the 5A team, because, “we don’t want to leave any question that we are the better team” in anticipation of playoff seeding. HRV played Barlow on the road Thursday (results unavailable at press time) and host Hillsboro Saturday morning for the final game of the regular season. Above, Blake Winner looks over the shoulder of Parkrose’s goalie for a shot; below, Rose Finstad puts up her hand to block a Parkrose passing attempt.
