The third “Pie with the Mayor” gathering drew a total of 10 people to Pine Street Bakery Monday for the chance to have a face-to-face sit-down with Mayor Paul Blackburn, right.

Blackburn, who took office in January, started the periodic pie events at rotating locations as a way to give citizens a casual opportunity to interact with him. Blackburn said poor street conditions as well as vegetation-blocked street visibility were two top concerns, along with the problem of dogs running off-leash. Another citizen spoke with Blackburn about the idea of a citizen initiative banning plastic bags in Hood River.

As to the campaign sign at right, the other prominent Hood River resident with the Blackburn name, Ruth, took the occasion to return it to Paul. Ruth, who is unrelated, had playfully absconded with the sign earlier this year, attaching to it her own sign, “Vote for Ruth — she’s more fun!”
