Mayor Paul Blackburn talks with Shallon Courser, Hood River Walmart representative, at Wednesday’s “plastic bag summit” at Hood River Library. Blackburn convened the summit, attended by about 25 people, to take input on a proposed ordinance banning single-use plastic bags (the ones used at checkout for shoppers to carry out of the store). Most of those in attendance said they supported some form of ban or fee system for encouraging people to use reuseable shopping bags. Blackburn said he will bring up the ordinance topic in Monday’s Council meeting (6 p.m., City Hall) but no decision will be made at that time.
