Free tax help through April in HR and TD

AARP Tax Aide program sites are now open through the end of tax season. Certified trained volunteers man the sites, sponsored by AARP in cooperation with the IRS. The help is free and preference is given to adults 60 and over and low- and moderate-income taxpayers.

Help is available for personal federal and Oregon tax returns with some limitations: Volunteers cannot help with Sch C returns that have losses, nor Sch E rental properties. E-filing at no cost is the norm. Photo ID is required for the taxpayer and also proof of social security numbers or ITIN’s for everyone on the return. Please bring last year’s return and all 2015 W-2s, 1099s, 1098s and all pertinent tax information, along with proof of health insurance.

The local sites are: Mondays at Hood River Library (downstairs), 2-6 p.m.; Thursdays at Hood River Adult Center (north door), 2-6 p.m.

Help is also available in The Dalles at Mid-Columbia Senior Center on Fridays, 2-6 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
