The torch has passed, it’s time to acknowledge youth once again, stop the presses: let it be known from this point forward that Alex Frazier has arrived.

The youngster had a brilliant week on the boards at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes. The hard-throwing right-hander’s off-the-corner hook ripped the sticks, bookending two great scratch 693 sets in the Tuesday Nite Mixed and Wednesday night Fraternal Leagues. In those two three-gamers, he racked up super scratch 267, 259 and 255 games. He was 159 pins over his average in the TNM and 141 pins over his average in the Fraternal. That makes Alex the No. 1 bowler in town last week and it’s the third time this season that he’s made the illustrious Team of the Week.

Alex’s fine bowling keyed a 24-1 point drubbing of his opponents in the high-scoring, fast-paced Fraternal last week, which also moved his team into first place with just two weeks to go in the second round of the league. That’s when bowling well really feels good! Alex may be a youngster, but he’s been around this great game since juniors and now he’s bowling three leagues a week, plus practice. That’s a solid formula for success and clearly, it works!

Our four remaining Team of the Week stars each made the fab five for the first time this season. Kevin Harris has a big-time resume in bowling, having tossed perfect 300 games here and in Spokane, Wash., at some of his old haunts there. He’s been in reset mode for most of this season, but he sure wowed everybody last week in the Monday night Industrial League, where he fired a lofty scratch 743 series that was highlighted by a big scratch 278 game. That was the high scratch series at the lanes last week and it was 155 pins over Kevin’s average. Needless to say, it appears that Kevin is back and ready to rumble!

Paul Weatherly also found the range in the same session, where he notched a fine scratch 224 game and 603 series that was 111 pins over his average. Paul has steadily improved his game, being a longtime stalwart in two leagues a week and team sponsor (Weatherly Printing). He is a key man who makes things work for league bowling around here, so we’re proud to note his success on the lanes — no one deserves it more. By the way, Paul is Alex Frazier’s steady teammate in the Fraternal. He’s often an unsung hero, but he was also way over his average last week in that big win they had.

From The Dalles, Michael Allen’s smooth-as-silk game was also in the zone in the Fraternal last week, where he stroked a huge scratch 278 game on his way to a scratch 665 set that was 116 pins over his average. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all be like Mike?!

And, it’s a great pleasure to salute one of The Dalles’ famous Hert bowling family to our storied big five. Joyce Hert lit up the lanes in the Thursday afternoon senior Lads & Lassies League, where she smashed the sticks to the tune of a nifty scratch 216 game. That big one enabled her to finish her outing 104 pins over her average. Welcome to the big-time, Joyce; we’re glad you’re here!

A couple of honorable mentions that just missed: Joella Dethman and Levi Phelps were each 100 pins over their averages last week. Joella did it in the TNM and young Levi muscled the poor sticks around with that pin-busting power ball of his in the Fraternal. Levi racked up big scratch 243 and 231 games in his solid scratch 649 series. Nice bowling, everybody!
