Second ‘Regional History Forum’ Feb. 13

Mattress-making and beating the finished product at the Chenoweth Grange, in 1942.

Local historian Sandy Bisset will share photos and stories at the Original Courthouse, 410 W. Second Place in The Dalles on Saturday, Feb. 13.

The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. and is the second in the 2016 Regional History Forum series taking place every Saturday in February. There is a TV monitor on the ground floor of the 1859 courthouse to serve those unable to climb the stairs.

Coffee and cookies will follow.

On Saturday’s program: Mattress-making, including beating the finished product, occupied Wasco County residents during World War II. There was a factory in Dufur and OSU Extension-sponsored projects at area Grange Halls designed to turn a bumper crop of cotton into inexpensive bedding.
