See stunning photographs, learn about secret waterfalls, and get tips on hiking the entire Columbia River Gorge from Oregon author and photographer Don J. Scarmuzzi at Klindt’s Booksellers on March 8. This event is free and open to the public. Klindt’s is located at 315 East Second in The Dalles.
Scarmuzzi, author of “Day Hikes in the Columbia River Gorge,” will give a talk and sign copies of his book, which is described in a press release as “a comprehensive guide to hiking the entire Columbia River Gorge, including trails not found in any other book.
“Designed specifically to cover 60 hikes spanning nearly the entire 85 mile corridor, it is the only guidebook for the Gorge with color photographs and color topographic maps,” the release contines. “Almost every waterfall, including secret ones, and nearly every overlook point, summit, and loop hike within the Gorge is covered in great detail with compass directionals and exact mileage calculated from multiple devices.”
The book also covers geological events that created the Gorge, prime seasons to hike, in-depth information about the total vertical gain, distance, duration, and difficulty of the hikes, and through loop hikes in the absolute best direction, maximizing your day, while providing alternate options too.
