Emily Sullenger (far right) won first place at the Girls Middle School State Wrestling Championships at Hood River Valley High School Feb. 13.

Sullenger joins the state placing ranks with her sister, Sarah Sullenger, who won Triple Crown last year, and was the first female to receive the Triple Crown status as a freshman. After the match, Sullenger boasted a 16-1 record this season (15 pins and 1 technical fall).

Sullenger has been wrestling for six years and loves the intensity of the sport, says her mother, Darlene Sullenger. She participates in two wrestling practices a day: first at Hood River Middle School, then two more hours at Elite Edge Wrestling Academy.

Sullenger’s goal for the season is to win at Reno Worlds this April.
