Gorge Soup for Kids dinner returns March 3

Five presenters have been chosen for this year’s Gorge Soup for Kids, March 3 at Springhouse Cellars in Hood River.

They are:

  • Video Game Club — Eric De La Torre
  • Sweet Tooth Bakery Booth — Zoe Wagner and Maeli Ready
  • Babysitting Club — Jasmin Charco
  • SUP for Fish — Hannah Hill
  • Earth Bag Initiative — Isis Stenn

Gorge Soup is a micro-philanthropy event where people buy tickets to come to a community soup dinner, prepared by Ben Stenn of Celilo. During the dinner, the young community members speed-present their idea for a new business, nonprofit, or art project in the Gorge.

At the end of the night, everyone at the dinner votes for their favorite ideas. The winner of the vote gets the ticket money.

It’s a way to meet new people and to support new businesses and projects in their earliest stage of development, and for the community to help make ideas a reality. In the past, Soup evenings have resulted in $1,500-$3,000 awards, as well as a wealth of community support and engagement. No matter the outcome, the presenters receive advice and encouragement from elders and their peers.

Gorge Soup for Kids starts at 6 p.m. To buy tickets, go to brownpapertick-ets.com/event/2363332.
