The “Battle of the Bridge” trophy will once against stay on the Oregon side of the Columbia River, as the HRV wrestling team once again trounced the Stevenson Bulldogs in the annual contest Wednesday evening in Hood River.

The Eagles have handily defeated the Bulldogs for at least the past few years and Wednesday night’s match was no different, as HRV beat Stevenson 71-10. The majority of those points came from forfeits, due to Stevenson not having enough wrestlers to fill weight classes.

Junior Manzo (160 pounds) and Ryan Zeller (106) both earned the Eagles six team points with pins. Oscar Villegas (182) won by tech fall and Cade Parker (132) and Payton Rigert (152) both fought very hard in their matches. Winning by forfeit for HRV were Justin Lane (113), Noah Wachsmuth (120), Tristan Keely (126), Jason Shaner (138), Dylan Peterson (145), Trystan Fisher (170), Jordan Jones (195), Yorick Infante (220, and Max Lane (285).

“We want to continue to have duals versus the other local high schools and fill the gym with fans from both teams,” said HRV Head Coach Trent Kroll. “It might be fun to change this dual up next year to include White Salmon too. We’ll have to figure that one out. Thanks to everyone who came out to support your Wreagles,” Kroll added.

Up next for the girls team is the Kelso tournament this weekend. The boys have the weekend off, hosting a kids’ tournament at HRV and will prepare for their dual vs Mt. View next Thursday in Bend.
