Secret Salsa meets Jan. 8

Secret Salsa invites you to start the New Year off with some Latin ballroom dancing with instructor Joshua Faulkner. Joshua will be teaching Rumba, a new dance for Gorge dancers, as he will share a sampler of ballroom Latin influences. It's cold outside, come warm up with the dance community! The Secret Salsa second Friday Dance Lesson and Social Dance is Jan. 8. Lesson starts at 7:30 p.m. Social dance follows until 10 p.m. Mt. View Grange, 1085 N Main, White Salmon, Wash. $10 admission. Country Dance returns Jan. 9

The Second Saturday Country Dance happens Jan. 9, from 5:30-9 p.m. (Potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m.) The dance caller will be Sue Baker from Hood River. The band will be the Mill Creek String Band from the Mid-Columbia Gorge area. Dance lessons will begin at 7 p.m. All ages welcome. No partner required. Family friendly. All dances walked through first time. Enjoy an evening of Country Squares, Contras, Circle dances and a few Waltzes.

Kevin Selfe at 64 Oz. Taproom

Kevin Selfe, a Hood River favorite and Waterfront Blues Festival artist, performs at 8 p.m. Jan. 9 with special guest John Pounds, at 64 Oz. taproom, 110 Third Street, Hood River.

Bands hit Double Mountain

Double Mountain presents Johnny B at 9 p.m. on Jan. 8 (rock, hip-hop and funk out of Montreal), Bad Assets at 9 p.m. Jan. 9 (Portland country band takes listeners on an Oregon ghost town road trip), and Al Hare at 8 p.m. on Jan. 14 (The Dalles-born member of alt-country band Brewers Grade), with funk and soul from Manimalhouse returning Jan. 16 for a 9 p.m. no cover show.

Vocal workshop starts Jan. 12

A free five-week vocal lesson workshop for men and women starts on Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 6:30-7 p.m. at the Hood River Valley Christian Church (975 Indian Creek Road). Learn new skills and revisit the basics of good singing to protect your voice. Sponsored by Harmony of the Gorge and Columbia Gorge Men’s Chorus.
