Here are two ways to observe the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose birthday is observed Monday as a federal holiday; schools, government offices and banks will be closed.
“The Life and Dreams of Martin Luther King Jr. Live On” — tune into Radio Tierra, 95.1FM on Monday, starting at 10:30 a.m. for this show put on by Gale Arnold. The show will feature music of the civil rights era, story and guests Yesenia Castro, Lana Jack and Karen Murphy.
“Building a Community with Justice for All,” at Riverside Community Church, Fourth and State streets in downtown Hood River, sponsored by Gorge Ecumenical Ministries.
At 6:30 p.m., hear a community-wide gospel choir under the leadership of local musician Tim Mayer. The celebration will be preceded by workshops from 4-5 p.m. and a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m.
The celebration is free of charge and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to support GEM’s social and environmental justice work in the Gorge.
