The Hood River Valley Swim Team Osprey swam at two meets this past weekend at the Mt. Hood Aquatic Center. It was a great weekend for the team — every swimmer had personal best times and there were multiple top 10 finishes.
The Howard Jones C meet was held in the 25-yard pool. Max Graves (8 years old) led the team with a first place finish in the 25-yard breaststroke (24.90 seconds), and other top 10 finishes included fifth in the 50 breaststroke (54.02) and a 10th-place finish in the 25 freestyle (23.33) in his age group. He also achieved four personal best times.
Izaiah Adams (11) swam to four best times, including a two-second drop in his 50 freestyle. Elijah Adams (10), Leah Sandoval (8) and Oliver Schofield (9) all swam to three best times. Adams dropped three seconds in his 50 free, Sandoval dropped seven seconds in her 50 breaststroke, and Schofield knocked four seconds off of his 50 breaststroke time. James Schofield (9) swam to two best times and a six-second improvement in his 50 freestyle. To wrap up the indoor meet, Trudy Sanders (6) hit a personal best in the 25 freestyle with a time of 29.32.
The Howard Jones A/B meet was held in the 50-meter pool. Skyla Hollowell (10) led the way for the Osprey in the point standings with four top-10 finishes and three personal best times. She placed eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:56.91), eighth in the 50 breaststroke (49.52), 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:44.74) and 10th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:22.50.
Michelle Graves (10) placed 10th in the 50 breaststroke (50.94) and achieved five personal bests, including a 12-second drop in the 100 breaststroke. Marina Castaneda (10) had the team’s highest finish of fourth place in the 50 breaststroke with a personal best time of 45.32, and she was also seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:44.14). Nora Sandoval (11) swam to four best times and achieved a more than three-second drop in the 200 freestyle (2:52.33). Willow Hollowell (9) swam to an 11-second improvement in her 50 backstroke (46.68) and achieved three best times. Sophia Kaden (12), Shea Kasenga (12) and Thea Smith (11) swam to four, three, and two personal best times, with very nice 50 backstroke best times of 43.85, 43.43, and 44.88, respectively.
