This week volunteers at Adopt A Dog have selected Hemingway as the program’s adoptable pet of the week.
You know how sometimes you see a dog and his head is too big for his body, and those legs are long and kinda skinny, and he chomps and chomps on a treat in such a way that gives everyone the giggles? Meet Hemingway!
Hemingway is about 3 years old, 70 pounds, and we think an American Bulldog/Boxer mix. He’s definitely a big lug of a boy, and just wants to be your friend, your buddy, your sidekick. And he’s very good at that! Hemingway has no idea he’s too big for most laps, so good thing he’s fine with cuddling into a little ... uh, not so little bundle! He does seem to find a way to fit!
Hemingway has very nice manners, and is excellent on a leash, plus he knows lots of commands and is very calm, unless there’s a super playful dog around. Then stand back, because they are going to have some fun! He loves to play fetch, and romp and follow people around, or he likes to relax and just watch the action going on around him. Nothing seems to get this boy upset! Seriously!
Hemingway was in a foster home up in northern Washington, and they really got to know him well, and it’s just too bad they have as many dogs as they do, because they would have loved to make Hemingway part of their family, but it was not to be, so here we are, hoping to give this guy more exposure to great adopters! We are lucky to have such a beautiful, intelligent, gentle boy! The only thing about Hemingway that isn’t perfection is that he likes to chase cats and little critters. He’s been very polite to the small dogs at the shelter, although we haven’t let them play together — he’s a big boy with rompin’-rollin’ moves, and that just freaks the jeepers out of those small pups! But otherwise, he’d be a great hiking partner, running pal, snuggling maniac! One nuzzle is all it takes!
Hemingway is current on shots, microchipped and neutered. The adoption fee for Hemingway is $205. The fee to adopt is charged to recoup standard veterinary expenses. Since many of our dogs are in foster, please call ahead to meet Hemingway in Odell at the Hukari Animal Shelter, 3910 Heron Drive, or call for more information at 541-354-1083.
