Hood River Valley High School robotics team Occam’s Razor competed in the World Competition in St. Louis last week, making it to the semi-finals after nine qualifying matches — making them one of the top 24 teams out of a field of 128.
“The semi-final round consists of the best of three matches, and after two matches, the score was one to one, forcing a third match,” said team member Victoria Kohner-Flanagan. “The team was eliminated after a hard fought match, losing by just seven points.
“Competing at Worlds was a great opportunity to meet people from around the world, exchange ideas, and learn from other people’s experience,” she said.
This was Occam’s Razor’s third and final year of the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics program, as the team consists of all seniors, Kohner-Flanagan added. “We appreciate the support they received from the community, especially from their coaches and mentors, Susan Winner and Jeff Blackman, and their sponsors,” she said. Occam’s Razor members are Blake Winner, Jake Kinney, Michael Guzman, Will Ferrick, and Kohner-Flanagan.
Sponsors are Hood River School District, Gorge Technology Alliance, Robichaud Batten Systems, Hogg & Davis, Inc, Waste Watch Inc, Decavo, Insitu and Google.
