Warming Shelter opens Nov. 27 in new location

UPDATE: The print version of this story incorrectly stated the shelter is opening downtown. It will open at an initial location at Mid-Columbia Center for Living next Sunday, Nov. 27.

The long search for a Warming Shelter site is over.

Hood River Shelter Services (hoodrivercares.org) will move into an initial location on Sunday: Mid-Columbia Center for Living. The shelter is open to anyone needing a bed for the night, and meals and operates from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly, through mid-March.

Guests are provided a mattress and sleeping bag and two meals. Volunteers work in pairs in three shifts all night. Call co-chairs Jan Miller at 425-223-0816 or Carole Dearholt at 541-490-1920 for details.

All guests must arrive by 9 p.m.; shelter rules include no smoking or drug use.
