HRV volleyball team won yet another tournament last weekend.
As of Tuesday, October 4, 2016
The trophy case has been filling up fast at Hood River Valley High School, as the school’s varsity program has once again won another tournament victory. The team’s latest came at their own tournament, which was held Saturday at Vannet Court and featured some tough schools. In the quarterfinals, HRV defeated 6A David Douglas in two sets (25-14, 25-10) and squeaked by 6A Beaverton in the semifinals (25-23, 25-22) — a team that had defeated HRV in pool play that morning. The title game was a nail biter with Ridgeview: HRV won the first set 25-17, lost the second set 29-27, and then rallied to take the third set 15-12. Katie Kennedy and Shae Duffy led the attack, combining for 50 kills in the three games, and Duffy also had a team-high nine aces. Rebecca Johnston led in the digs category with 33, Emily Curtis had an HRV-best 43 assists, and Bianca Badillo had a team-high four blocks. The wins, however, did nothing to improve HRV’s spot in the standings, as the Eagles seem perpetually stuck in a seventh-seed purgatory. HRV (21-1, 5-0 Columbia River Conference) was scheduled to play The Dalles (3-8, 2-3) on the road Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in a game that would have clinched the CRC for the Eagles if the team won (results not available at press time). HRV next hosts Ridgeview (4-9, 0-3 Intermountain Conference) Thursday at 6 p.m. in what will be HRV’s final nonleague game.
